ISLAMABAD: NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik has said that magnetic ink was not used during May 11 general election in NA-256 and NA-258 constituencies.
Addressing a joint press conference along with Election Commission Secretary Ishtiaque Ahmed Khan, Malik said that the NADRA was not able to verify the votes cast without the magnetic ink.
He advised political parties to wait for the decision of the Election Tribunal as NADRA had submitted its report. He added that no result should be drawn from the NADRA report as the case was still pending in the court. The NADRA chairman said that it was the ECP's responsibility to procure magnetic ink for the voting process. He said that ink samples provided in December and January were rejected, adding that sample which was sent in September last year was approved.
Speaking on the occasion, the ECP secretary said that the system had started working. He said the world had applauded ECP system. Ishtiaque Ahmed Khan said that the ECP had ordered re-polling in many constituencies.
